Infertility
 |
Infertility is a condition of the reproductive system
often diagnosed after a couple has one year of unprotected, well-timed intercourse,
or if the woman suffers from multiple miscarriages.
Infertility can be male or female related.
Approximately 40 percent of infertility is due to a female factor and
40 percent is due to a male factor. In
the remaining cases, infertility results from problems in both partners or the cause
of infertility cannot be explained.
According to the Centers
for Disease Control (CDC), infertility affects 7.3 million people in the
U.S.
This figure represents 12 percent
of women of reproductive age, or one in eight couples.
