Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is a chronic (ongoing) disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract.  It most commonly affects the small intestine and/or the colon.  Crohn’s disease is most common among adolescents and young adults, between 15 and 35 years old, with ten percent of all patients under the age of 18.

Crohn’s and a related disease, ulcerative colitis, are part of a larger disease family called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).  As many as one million Americans have IBD.

Special Considerations for Patients with Crohn’s Disease

Patients need additional monitoring and support to maintain the safe and effective use of their medications.  For example, our pharmacy team may monitor for redness of the injection site and signs of infection such as: fever, chills, sore throat, flu symptoms, easy bruising or bleeding, pale skin or unusual weakness.

Our team will also remind you not to receive a "live" vaccine without physician approval.
